Water transformed into wine

On April 12, 2024, the 50th anniversary meeting of the “Carahunge Armenological Center” took place.

Our lecturer was Boris Gasparyan, a researcher at the Institute of Archaeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, a teacher at YSU, the head of an archaeological expedition that found the most ancient 5,500-year-old shoes in Areni-1 cave, as well as the oldest winery.

Topic: "Water transformed into wine. The origins of viticulture and winemaking".

An attempt is made to present the available data and understanding of the origin and formation of viticulture and winemaking in the Armenian Highlands. Their connection with natural cycles, worldview and value system of the ancient inhabitants of the mountainous region is presented. Their connection and interrelation with well-known biblical narratives is shown.
